Happy Summer! I'm very proud of our Ascend family and all the great activity and our achievements so far. We held our Second Annual Ascend Charity Golf Outing at the Manhattan Woods Golf Club in May and raised 140K for Ascend Foundation! Ascend NorCal, New Jersey and NY Metro Chapters all held very successful events - congratulations to all! We also held an Asian Corporate Directors Roundtable Dinner in San Francisco and Ascend Foundation continues to receive coverage in top-tier publications.

Second Annual Ascend Charity Golf Outing Raised $140,000 For The Ascend Foundation

Ascend Foundation hosted their second annual charity golf outing at the fairways of Manhattan Woods Golf Club at West Nyack on June 5, 2018. More than 100 participants from the largest Fortune 500 companies competed for the prizes, including a brand new BMW convertible. The event's honorees, Lesley Ma, Global CIO at Cadillac, a division of General Motors and Rajive Johri, Board Director at Conagra Brands, Inc. received the Ascend Trailblazer Awards. The event raised approximately $140,000 to further the mission of the Ascend Foundation. Read the full press release here.


Asian Corporate Directors Roundtable Dinner in SF

The bi-annual Ascend Pinnacle Roundtable dinner was hosted at the RASA restaurant in Burlingame, CA on May 29th. In addition to spending quality time with their peers, the directors also heard a summary and discussion of "Decision-making in the visionary boardroom" by Susan Angele, Chair of Women Corporate Directors (WCD) Thought Leadership Commission.

In collaboration with the Stanford Graduate School of Business, the Advanced Leadership Program was created to help accelerate the development of global business leadership skills of executives working in global companies. This will be our 10th class since inception.

Curriculum. Confidence. Connections. Community. In six intense days, you’ll learn global business leadership skills from Stanford GSB faculty. You’ll meet successful Asian-American leaders and hear personal stories from the C-suite. You’ll have a unique opportunity to build a strong community based on shared experiences, and develop a personal action plan to transform classroom learning into personal and professional success.

Financial Times' Agenda wrote an in-depth article on the lack of Asian Americans on Boards, the Pinnacle Initiative and the Pinnacle Summit.

Rain does not stop successful IAG event in NJ!

On May 19, 2018, the chapter held its fourth annual Inspiring Across Generations conference at NJ’s Kean University STEM building. The theme - Career-Boosting Skills That Matter - brought learning and networking opportunities to 130 participants on a rainy Saturday. Shahid Malik’s (President, Energy Resources- PSEG) welcome keynote focused on preparation and adapting to challenges. The featured panel discussion focused on managing difficult situations with insights from BMS, KPMG, Merck, PSEG, and UPS leaders. The eight breakout sessions taught soft and technical skills. Chester Twigg’s (Chief Customer Officer - Johnson & Johnson) closing keynote discussed critical skills acquired through adversity.

  Ascend NorCal Mentoring Leadership Intensive Session 1 at Stitch Fix HQ

Ascend NorCal has been busy with the launch of the revamped Leadership Coaching Intensive Session (Previously known as Mentoring Program Sessions)! Ascend NorCal's Mentoring Program Team supported a full class of professionals ranging from young to mid-level experience by gathering them at start-up phenom Stitch Fix's headquarters in San Francisco. Stitch Fix's CFO, Paul Yee, kicked off the event with a warm welcome and sharing of his own personal journey into leadership. By the end of the session, not only were attendees able to enhance their leadership presence and brand through interactive activities and listening to two specially selected keynote speakers, but they were also able to build a circle of colleagues and mentors to help guide them in their professional activities.
