July 2016 Edition

Dear Ascend Members and Supporters,
We are now just 3 (!!) weeks away from the 2016 Ascend National Convention & Career Fair taking place at Disneyland July 30-August 1. In line with this year’s theme, “Dare to Dream, Be Extraordinary, Ascend!”, I challenge all of us to dream a little bigger this year. While I know everyone will be busy during the convention, I still want to make sure I hear from you all. Let's be as interactive as possible. Be social using our hashtags found below, engage on our Convene app, and share your photos with us - don't forget to mention @AscendLeader! I hope to see you all at the Most Magical Place on Earth in a few weeks!

I’m proud to announce Ascend’s First Annual Charity Golf Outing taking place on September 13 at Manhattan Woods Golf Club. I have always dreamed of having an exclusive annual golf outing for the Pan-Asian Community and I look forward to making this a reality. And what better way to hold a Golf Outing than to help the Pan-Asian Community by raising funds for the Ascend Foundation to further the Foundation’s mission of advocacy, thought leadership, education and scholarships with the goal of continually elevating the presence and influence of the Pan-Asian community. To register, please visit:

Below are some other key updates for July.

Warmest Regards,

Jeff Chin

Ascend Midwest Chapter: Inspiring Across Generations – The Power of Diversity

The Ascend Midwest Chapter had a successful Inspiring Across Generations (IAG) conference on June 9, 2016, hosted by Grant Thornton in Chicago, IL. The conference theme for this year, “The Power of Diversity”, kicked off with the insightful session “Unconscious Bias”, presented by University of Wisconsin’s Director of Diversity, Binnu Palta Hill. This was followed by an engaging panel discussion “Lessons from Climbing the Corporate Ladder” with executives from HSBC, Associated Bank, Bank of America, Boeing, Deloitte, and Wells Fargo. The conference finished strong with keynote speaker Linda Yu, a pioneer for Asian Americans in journalism and now one of Chicago’s most respected broadcasters. Her empowering stories inspired us all. Follow the Ascend Midwest Facebook page for photos from the event and info on upcoming events!

Ascend Inspirational Leader: Betty Ng, Senior Vice President of Corporate Development, Moody’s
"I am grateful for the inspiration, opportunities and supportive network of friends Ascend and Moody’s have provided me over the years. They continue to show me the impact we all can make—individually and collectively—as well as the importance of sharing our stories and learnings to help our communities. I hope you will find helpful “nuggets” in the mini-case study created with Ascend and Moody’s. They reflect many ideas I have developed with my role model and mom, Po-Ling, in the book we are writing together: remember to persevere for your priorities and passions; help others to succeed; lead, inspire, and network to make things happen; and take every opportunity to grow personally and professionally."
