February 2018 Edition
Dear Ascend Members and Supporters,

Happy Lunar New Year!! I hope you're having a wonderful time ringing in the Year of the Dog.

I also hope you've all been watching the Olympics and witnessed the incredible athletes and of course all the Asian American athletes who are competing in the games! I've loved watching Chloe Kim and her proud dad as well as Nathan Chen and the Shibutani siblings.

On the Ascend front, there's a lot to be excited about! Ascend is growing, we keep innovating and continue to enhance the presence and influence of Pan-Asians everywhere. A testament to this are all the world-class events and programming we have coming up this year. I hope you all get involved both on the national and local chapter levels!

Lastly, I'm thrilled to announce that registration for the National Convention in San Francisco is now LIVE! You can REGISTER HERE!

Ascend GW's Inaugural Lunar New Banquet

On February 10th, the Greater Washington Chapter hosted a sold-out, Lunar New Year Banquet in its inaugural year hosting over 170 professionals and students from around DC to usher the Year of the Dog. In partnership with the showcase sponsor, HSBC, proceeds supported local non-profit, Asian American Lead, as we highlighted a few of the chapter’s marquee events and flagship programs like the Corporate Executive Leadership Program and the annual Inspiring Across Generations conference. This event also showcased local talent like an opening Lion Dance by the Jow Ga Shaolin Institute and a martial arts demonstration by the O-mei Wushu Center. Special thanks to Wes Hom, Anna Wei, and Amy Shang for attending on behalf of Ascend National.

Ascend LA Metro Celebrates the Year of The Dog

This month, the Los Angeles Metro Chapter hosted its fifth annual Lunar New Year (LNY) celebration that gathered over 220 guests to the heart of San Gabriel Valley. While enjoying a delicious ten-course meal, guests heard inspiring personal anecdotes from executive speakers, Debbie Kim (Tax Partner, EY) and Anwer Khan (Managing Director, Deloitte) regarding the effective uses of "allyship". Guests were also able to connect and engage with each other through the LNY themed games and networking. Throughout the evening, both professionals and students were able to build new connections as well as strengthen existing ones.

Member of the Month: Zach Heng, Associate Manager, Booz Allen Hamilton; VP of Marketing, Ascend Greater Washington Chapter

"My involvement with Ascend has been incredibly insightful and fulfilling. It has been insightful in two ways: (1) Being a more educated leader in the Pan-Asian community to engage in better dialogues with non-Pan Asian communities; and (2) discovering that one does not have to follow or conform to a single career path, but multiple can be maintained simultaneously. It has been fulfilling in that it has given me a platform to strengthen my professional skills as the [Greater Washington] chapter’s VP of Marketing while also building relationships with the area’s Pan-Asian organizations and broadening Ascend’s presence. I'm grateful for the opportunities the organization has given me and I'm proud of the work I’ve accomplished in both my formal and informal capacities within Ascend."
