October 2019 Edition

Dear Ascend Members and Supporters,

Happy Halloween!

The fall season has arrived and with that comes all the exciting chapter events! We hosted our very first event in Denver, CO earlier this month and with such a great turnout and interest, Ascend is excited about building the Pan-Asian business community in the region. Ascend regional chapters offer robust year round professional development and career enhancement programs to cultivate Pan-Asian talent. As always, we encourage you to get involved with our chapters and the community. You can view the calendar of events in the updates below. A new year is right around the corner and with Ascend, there are endless possibilities to learn, grow and give back.

We are also pleased to report that as part of our vision to serve as a collective voice for Pan-Asian business communities, Ascend presented a letter and testified during the California public hearing focused on 'Breaking the API Glass Ceiling'. In conjunction with other leading Asian and Pacific Islander (API) groups, we requested that the Senate Select Committee on Asian Pacific Islander Affairs consider legislation requiring large companies doing business in California to disclose race and gender data in the management pipeline to help improve the transparency of diversity in companies and address the gaps in leadership diversity for Asians and all racial groups.

As we head into the year-end holiday season, we look forward to your continued engagement and support.

Warmest Regards,

Jeff Chin

Ascend LA Metro & OC chapter team up for panel event

On September 18th, Ascend LA Metro and Orange County (OC) Chapter held an insightful panel event, Inspiring & Optimizing Your Team, hosted by ADP in San Dimas, California. The panel included Co-President of the OC Chapter, Steve Taw, Principal Operating Officer, Technology & Operations at Capital Group and ADP Southern California Executive leaders who narrated their stories of what inspired them to be successful in their professional field, and how they inspire others to team together for optimal results. Successful Denver Happy Hour event signifies growth in Ascend's future

On October 1st, the team of Ascend Executive Leaders gathered for an information session and Happy Hour event at Molson Coors Headquarters in Downtown Denver. Designed for HR/Talent Officers, C-Suite executives and Chief Diversity Officers who are interested in leadership development, the event aimed to connect Pan-Asian professionals in Denver and spread the word about Ascend in Colorado. The Happy Hour event was a great success, with more than 70 Pan-Asian and Diversity leaders in attendance throughout that night and with such interest gathered, Ascend's presence in Denver seems on the horizon.
