Executive Insight Series™ (EIS)

Session Description:

The Executive Insight Series™ (EIS) assists high-potential Pan-Asian managers, senior professionals and young executives attain leadership roles in major North American corporations. EIS provides insight into key characteristics, specific behaviors, competencies, and experiences required to reach the executive level. Participants typically have 8-12 years of experience and hold manager, director, or vice president positions.

Ascend’s findings show that relatively few Pan-Asians have achieved executive leadership roles, even in regions with a significant Pan-Asian presence such as San Francisco and New York.

EIS examines the “Myths of Asian Leadership” preventing Pan-Asians from reaching top executive positions.

This program provides participants with a leadership framework that empowers them to adapt their attitudes for leadership and business value.

Learning Objectives:
At the end of this session, the learner will:
  • gain insights on what skills, competencies and experiences senior management is expecting in their high potential talent
  • understand how and why you need to expand your power base
  • craft your distinctiveness with differentiated personal qualities: develop a new five-word statement of your desired personal executive brand
  • understand a framework for success and the needed leadership traits and behaviors

Executive Insight for Women (EIW)

Session Description:

Ascend created The Executive Insight for Pan-Asian Women (EIW) program to help mid-level Pan-Asian female managers address common challenges as they rise within their respective organizations in corporate America.

Developed by Pan-Asian female executives based on contemporary issues raised during focus groups, this program provides both conceptual frameworks and pragmatic, actionable advice on addressing these issues with a deep understanding of the influence from Pan-Asian cultural values.

Pan-Asian female executives who encountered and overcame many of these issues in their careers instruct this program. These executives will share their experiences, lessons learned, and personal insight along with their own career journeys. Ascend designed the program to be interactive, with mini-lectures, discussions, and role-play exercises. Participants should expect to leave with a heightened awareness of the choices and skills they will need to develop and demonstrate to be more effective and successful in their unique career journeys.

Learning Objectives:
At the end of this session, the learner will:
  • gain exposure to the executive values and leadership skills required by large North American corporations
  • recognize and learn how to deal with stereotypes about Pan-Asian women as they climb the corporate ladder
  • learn techniques to handle work-life balance challenges
  • understand the importance of networking and building relationships to help achieve their career goals and aspirations

Elevate offers advice on skills and meaningful behaviors needed for continued career success. These leadership topics are selected by millennials from around the world from some of the most iconic, sought-after companies. This session’s topic is Securing Credit and Recognition: Do you feel that you are not getting credit and recognition from your bosses or peers at work: a promotion, a raise, a public recognition or some other reward that you’ve worked hard to get and deserve? How do you deal with these unfair outcomes when you feel powerless to control the situation? Come hear our expert panel of successful millennials discuss how to overcome these types of situations and offer helpful takeaways through the story of one millennial, Sammy.

In this session we will walk you through real world examples of how you can secure yourself, both personally and professionally, in today’s world of Cybersecurity. We will discuss the latest threats in the area of Cybersecurity such as Ransomware and the recent high profile cyber attack WannaCry. We will talk about phishing and what hackers are doing to target you, and what you can do to ensure you are not a victim. Don’t miss this session if you want to know what steps you need to take to effectively prevent and detect these threats.

A study projects worldwide information technology (IT) spending estimates to total $3.5 trillion in 2017 and another study notes that the Chief Marketing Officers’ technology spend in 2017 could exceed that of the Chief Information/Technology Officers. Given the level of prominence of IT in today’s world we live in, IT auditing has its own challenges. While we are all aware that IT auditing will need to evolve alongside the technological advancements, we are not quite there yet. In our presentation we will discuss some of the common pitfalls in IT auditing.

“Inclusive Listening” focuses on the listening side of communication. It systematically, and rapidly, ‘tunes the ear’ to unfamiliar accents. It minimizes the need for colleagues and clients to ask, or hear, the questions, “What did you say? Can you repeat that?” Mentors and coaches will also learn how to teach the pronunciation techniques for the 7-10 sounds that non-native English speakers find most difficult, and the ten most effective speaking techniques to use in multicultural, linguistically diverse organizations. Attendees will acquire the tools needed to remove barriers to participation, collaboration, and seamless knowledge transfer. “Inclusive Listening” enables every constituent of a multinational organization, native and non-native English speakers alike, to communicate their expertise with clarity, confidence, and ease.
