April 2019 Edition
Dear Ascend Members and Supporters,

We are very proud of our Ascend family and all the great activity that's going on. During March 22-24, Ascend Pinnacle hosted its third Asian Corporate Directors Summit at The Ritz-Carlton in Westchester. This year's Summit featured key topics for corporate boards and placed an additional focus and effort on the pipeline of Asian board member candidates. Ascend Pinnacle Aspiring Directors Academy, held adjacent to the Summit, had an over 40% increase in the number of attendees from last year! In addition to Pinnacle's core goals of increasing the number of Asians on corporate boards and building a robust pipeline of future board leaders, we also look to disrupt the traditional board recruitment process and help ensure that diversity and inclusion is seen as a key business imperative. We want to thank everyone who made the event such a success!

We're seeing momentum rise as we get closer to the 2019 Ascend National Convention & Career Fair in Washington D.C and we're excited to announce that registration is now open! It is an honor to reveal our marquee speaker for the Convention and Ascend Icon Award Honoree is Dr. Indra Nooyi, the former CEO and Chairman of the Board at PepsiCo, currently serves on multiple other company boards including Amazon and until recently, one of the few female CEOs of a Fortune 100 company. Another highly anticipated event at the convention this year is our newest contest. Since last year’s Innovation Challenge was a huge success at our National Convention, this year we decided to craft a new challenge. We are excited to introduce and encourage everyone to take part in the 2019 Ascend Hackathon! You can find corresponding links and registration information for both the Convention and Hackathon with the rest of the national and local updates below.

Another event that we are looking forward to is the third annual Ascend Charity Golf outing at Manhattan Woods Golf Club in May. There are sponsorship opportunities still available and can be viewed in the Golf feature section below.

On the leadership training front, we're proud to launch the Asian American Executive Program Scholarship in collaboration with Stanford Graduate School of Business - a program that will create meaningful impact for future Asian American leaders. We encourage you to check out the application and program information in the remaining half of this jam-packed newsletter!

Last but not least, our chapters have been very active in organizing and expanding our local/regional offerings. Our newest chapter, Ascend Orange County, debuted with a fantastic event!

NATIONAL & LOCAL UPDATES

Boardroom talks and candid dialogues dominated 2019 Asian Corporate Directors Summit!

Thank you to all our attendees, sponsors and speakers at the 2019 Asian Corporate Directors Summit! The event was successful in furthering the dialogue around strategic boardroom issues and covered a wide range of topics including maximizing value of the boardroom through diversity; governance in an era of disruptive risks; international corporate boards; and AI in the boardroom.

Among the top highlights includes attendees engaging in various networking opportunities and experiencing a fireside chat with Farooq Kathwari, chairman and CEO of Ethan Allen in which he shed a light on Corporate Social Responsibility. Another highlight from that weekend is the exponential success reached by the Ascend Pinnacle Aspiring Directors Academy which experienced a 40 percent increase in attendance from last year!

We appreciate the great feedback from this event and look forward to continuing our collective goal and helping to shape the future for Pan-Asian board members.
