Metro New York - EP2: Etiquette and Protocol for Executive Presence

The Ascend Metro New York Chapter hosted "EP2: Etiquette and Protocol for Executive Presence," sponsored by PricewaterhouseCoopers on Tuesday, October 4th, 2011. This was yet another high turnout event with around 100 guests in attendance.

The seminar highlighted the importance of etiquette and protocol as tangible tools for success presented in a motivational and interactive format by Carol Davidson (image consultant and founder of StyleWorks of Union Square Inc). The seminar included topics such as importance of soft skills in business, the three P's of executive presence as well as different types of etiquette - dining etiquette, social etiquette, networking etiquette and electronic etiquette - common blunders and key practical takeaways.

The evening also had entertaining role played by George Gallagher, an Ascend Board Member, as well as various other members that highlighted the typical etiquette faux pas. Networking sessions with cocktails and refreshments were also held at the start and end of the evening, allowing members to meet one another and share their stories.

In a nutshell, we learned from the seminar that "etiquette in today's world has essentially become the art of helping others feel comfortable. Where money and social status were once automatic entrée and the primary keys to opening doors, education and etiquette awareness now make these doors open for us. Etiquette awareness also serves to increase our own confidence and savvy to better navigate less familiar arenas."
