Andrew Mahabir summarized Ascend’s student chapter accomplishments in 2010.

This has been a great year for Ascend’s student chapters in the Metro New York Area. The students continue to work hard to deliver quality events on campus, and this has translated to large membership growth at many of the 11 student chapters in the Metro New York Area. For example, the Rutgers Newark chapter has added approximately 50 new student members this semester alone! Some of these events driving this growth include:

  • Becoming and Being a Leader

Featuring Guest Speaker Kevin Kim, Deputy Director of Community Affairs, and close runner-up in the 2009 NYC council election in the 19thDistrict in Queens New York. Mr. Kim shared his insight with the students about being a leader in the Asian community. In addition, he spoke to the students about how they too can become leaders, and the qualities needed to get there.

  • Networking Etiquette

Featuring Guest Speaker Samuel Mok, Former CFO of the U.S. Department of Labor, and Ascend National Advisory Board Member. Mr. Mok spoke to the students about the importance of paying attention to the details, how to build connections, and the importance of maintaining connections.

While these are just two examples, the Ascend student chapters of Metro New York have worked tirelessly to provide their respective student bodies with a wide variety of events including Dinning Etiquette workshops, Excel Workshops, and a variety of professional panel presentations.

Though 2010 has been a tremendous year for Ascend Metro New York student chapters, we look forward to continued growth and development in 2011!
