Event set to take off with announcement of new National Executive Director Arthur Chin

New York; June 3, 2010. "Embracing the Future – Onward and Upward” is the theme for the Third Annual Ascend National Convention. The convention has become the foremost event for Pan-Asians and other professionals to build relationships with mentors and business leaders and to pursue leadership development. Hosted by Ascend, the premier professional organization dedicated to leveraging the leadership and global business potential of Pan-Asians, the event will take place this August 14, 15, and 16 at the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers, 811 Seventh Avenue at 53rd Street.

Ascend has named Arthur Chin as National Executive Director. He will oversee the strategic growth and corporate partnerships for 11 professional and 22 student chapters across the US. Mr. Chin brings over 15 years of experience in strategy, management, and technology. Previously with IBM, he was also a Vice President of Citigroup Asia Pacific and an Engagement Manager with McKinsey & Company.

According to Mr. Chin, the theme of embracing the future reflects this year’s emphasis on adapting a positive, proactive approach toward change in the workplace. "As we emerge from this period of uncertainty and volatility,” he says, "it is critical to focus on the essential skills and relationships required to regain momentum and spur the recovery. Asian American leaders need to be aware of economic, social, and environmental trends, and be able to demonstrate flexibility to maximize relevance and impact while reinventing careers, industries, and business value. Ascend is helping create a web of supportive advisors and mentors to give back to our communities. Therefore, our aim is to develop a trusted network of visible, positive role models who can inspire younger generations and establish a real pipeline of leaders.”

Accordingly, the Ascend National Convention will provide opportunities for students as well as professionals to improve their skill sets, build relationships with mentors and peers, obtain valuable insights through case studies, and much more. Last year's convention attracted more than 1100 visitors and more than 30 career fair booths and sponsoring organizations such as Boeing, Chartis, HSBC, and National Grid.

Highlights from some of this year’s convention presentations are "Taking Calculated Risks and Moving Out of Your Comfort Zone,” "The Asian Mosaic – Managing a Global Workforce,” "Leadership Development through Volunteering,” and "Contrasting Asian and Latin American Market Opportunities.” Featured speakers include PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Vice Chair Greg Garrison and annual favorite Deloitte CEO Barry Salzberg. These corporate luminaries will present reflections on their own careers as well as insight into industry trends.
