Ascend Seattle Recaps 2010

Ascend Seattle started 2010 with a Lunar New Year event in February with 75 people in attendance enjoying the delicious food and wonderful entertainment by the Seattle Chinese Orchestra.

In April they had their first professional development workshop of the year titled "Successful Communication Across Generations." Dr. Jeff Wilson, Ph.D, Senior Advisor of Boeing, talked about ways to better understand and communicate with fellow professionals and managers from different generations to the 67 people in attendance. There was also an insightful panel discussion with John Song, CEO of Lift9, Dr. Chad Hattrup, Co-Founder of Pathwise Leadership Development & Advising, and Kristyn Bonilla of Boeing.

Emily Rollins, Deloitte Partner provided valuable networking tips and tricks at "Fine Art of Networking and Wine Tasting" event in June 2010 at Hotel 1000.

A second professional development workshop took place in July 2010 Executive Presence & Professionalism - "Take the Foreign out of International: How to Succeed at Work in the U.S. and Asia.” Nancy Mueller, the speaker talked about understanding the implications of our communication, both verbal and non-verbal.

The Diversity Career Expo and Appreciation Gala took place in September. The career fair was a great success with hundreds of eager, enthusiastic job-seeking professionals, students and nearly 20 exhibitors. Seattle Ascend Chapter celebrated their first anniversary during the Appreciation Gala. Nearly 150 of their members, sponsors, supporters, and friends joined to hear from two fantastic keynote speakers with unique perspectives on "re-energizing your career.” The speakers were Ben Huh, CEO of The Cheezburger Network and, Glenn Cook, Director of Global Staffing of The Boeing Company.

In October, Kevin Akeroyd, the President of Jigsaw, delivered a 45-slide presentation to a sold out crowd at the "Personal Branding" event held at Banana Republic.In November, Karen Kang, Silicon Valley branding expert, shared her secrets to leveraging your own ecosystem in establishing your personal brand.

Ascend Seattle definitely had a busy year.
