Ascend Foundation's Hidden in Plain Sight report featured in Harvard Business Review

Take a look at this great read from the Harvard Business Review titled "Why Aren’t There More Asian Americans in Leadership Positions?" featuring Ascend Foundation’s highly cited 2015 research “Hidden in Plain Sight – Asian American Leaders in Silicon Valley”. The article presents social and cultural research on Asian Americans in business, asks why there are so few Asian Americans in leadership positions and offers useful recommendations.

Ascend NorCal hosts a private screening of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

On December 16th, in partnership with CalCPA, Ascend NorCal Chapter reserved one theater at the Regal Jack London Stadium 9 Cinema Complex (in Oakland, California) for a private screening of Rogue One. Members and one guest each were treated to a VIP experience in watching Lucasfilm's newest installment of the Star Wars saga. The event was a hit in bringing together more than 200 Ascend and CalCPA members to start the holidays with an epic space battle. Ascend NorCal was able to raise funds for the event through subsidized ticket sales and bring awareness of Ascend to members' guests by running a membership drive during check-in. Ascend NorCal Holiday Party 2016: Unicorn Pan-Asian Cuisine, Charity Raffle & Karaoke

Ascend NorCal decided to host their holiday party on December 5th at a new venue in 2016. Unicorn Pan-Asian Restaurant located in the heart of the San Francisco FIDI (Financial District) was brought to our attention by NorCal Board Member, Rick Gutierrez. Rick had a personal connection with the owner of Unicorn, Kiet. And Kiet was able to offer Ascend NorCal a signature drink menu, flavors from all across Asia and a karaoke option for the party. So we went with all three. Darcy Lopes, Livia Ching-Gerring and Mary Geong, Leadership of the NorCal Chapter also ran a gift raffle with all proceeds going to Ascend Foundation. There were over 15 prizes attendees could purchase raffle tickets for, including two leadership mentoring sessions with Larry Chang and Denise Peck, long time Executive Board Members of Ascend. The night ended with the more than a fair share of the 80 attendees singing late into the night.
