Greater Washington Chapter hosts Successful November 2016 IAG

The 5th Annual Ascend Greater Washington Chapter (GWC) Inspiring Across Generations (IAG) Conference was held on November 12, 2016 at the Hyatt Arlington. “Agile, Innovative, Bold" was the conference theme. Approximately 210 guests attended the event, which was covered by TV Asia, an information and entertainment channel for the South-Asian community in North America. Our list of dynamic speakers included Major General Linda L. Singh, Retired Managing Director, Accenture; Young Bang, Senior Vice President, Booz Allen Hamilton; Bhushan Deodhar, Chief Executive Officer, Shankara, Inc. and Kimo Kippen, Chief Learning Officer, Hilton Worldwide. Accenture's DC Asian Pacific American Employee Resource Group, in addition to several exceptional individuals, were recognized during the Awards luncheon for their exemplary contributions. The inspirational day concluded with a networking reception.

November Executive Insight Series (EIS) held in Boston

Congratulations to the first class of Ascend’s Executive Insight Series held in Boston on November 4th and 5th hosted by State Street. There were 20 attendees from State Street, KPMG, Wellington Management and the Commonwealth Compact over the 2-day training event and had active participation for all the modules (Risk Taking, Managing Up, Personal Branding, Power & Influence, and Selling/Communicating Your Story). The first module, Myths of Asian Leadership, laid out the challenge for Pan-Asians in the US Corporate world. The stats are available externally from various US Federal sources, but the presentation as laid out was eye opening in many ways. All the attendees are encouraged to speak to their organizations, specifically their management chain, and share what they learned and use some of the tools described in the training. In the next few quarters, the chapter will follow up with this class on the use of these insights.

Ascend "Power" Member Series: Saguna Hitapot Anderson, Recruiting Manager, Capital One; Past President & Board Member, Ascend Greater Washington Chapter

We at Ascend want to acknowledge the hard work and dedication that our members provide. We will be highlighting individuals who have gone above and beyond and are such great assets to the Ascend community. This month, we feature Saguna Hitapot Anderson, Recruiting Manager, Capital One; Past President & Board Member, Ascend Greater Washington Chapter:

When the Ascend Greater Washington Chapter was getting started, I thought it would be a great opportunity to build up my networking skills and meet some like-minded individuals who were interested in the topic of Diversity & Inclusion. I did not expect to have the opportunity to build my leadership skills and gain so much advice and guidance from mentors and leaders as well. As an active chapter member, the pride and confidence that I have gained from working alongside some amazing individuals who are just as passionate about making a difference in the Pan-Asian business community has been the biggest reward.

We thank you for all that you have done!
