This year, in addition to our panel, we will also showcase various exciting topics during our afternoon session. We will also have executives and top professionals share their insightful stories and advice of how to succeed within their related industry and field.

    Ramsey Jay Jr., Author, Speaker, Leadership Coach

    Ramsey Jay Jr. ( is a Wall Street trained finance professional with more than a decade of global investment management experience with an acute focus on alternative assets. Mr. Jay is also a widely recognized expert on leadership development, communication consultant, executive leadership coach, and an international motivational speaker, driven by his mission to "Empower Dreamers to Become Achievers", the title of his recently released book. In 2016, he was invited to make opening remarks at the White House where President Barack Obama and the First Lady Michelle Obama hosted an event honoring Ray Charles. In 2015, Mr. Jay was the recipient of UCLA's Anderson school Riordan Programs inaugural "Excellence in Civil Engagement Leadership Award" recognizing his commitment to serve the community. Mr. Jay is also an Archon of the Gamma Zeta Boule of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity where he is President of the Gamma Zeta Boule Foundation. Mr. Jay earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in finance from the Craig School of Business at California State University, Fresno, where he was a five-time all-conference track and field athlete. Mr. Jay also earned a Master's in Business Administration from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College, where he was the recipient of the Jack Welch Award for Excellence in Management Communication, and voted speaker of the 105th graduating class.

    Nanxi Liu, Co-Founder and CEO, Enplug

    Nanxi Liu, named Forbes 30 Under 30, is the Co-Founder and CEO of Enplug, a technology company that builds the leading open software for displays used in stadiums, corporate offices, retail stores, banks, restaurants, and colleges. The software is used by both Fortune 500 companies and small businesses. Enplug is headquartered in Los Angeles and has offices in Australia, Brazil, Japan, Thailand, and UK. In college, Nanxi founded Nanoly Bioscience, which develops polymers that enable vaccines to survive without refrigeration. It won World Biomaterials Congress's Top Research and named NASA's Top 10 New Tech Companies. The company is successfully operating today and Nanxi is chairman. Nanxi is on the Board of Advisors for Covington Capital Management ($2 billion under management) and the United Nations Women's steering committee. For her community service, Nanxi received 1 of 7's National Leadership Awards along with Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. A Colorado native, Nanxi double majored at UC Berkeley and is a concert pianist.

    Danny Le, Partner, KPMG

    Danny Le was born and raised in California of Vietnamese heritage. With an entrepreneur mind, he started a computer sales and consulting business in the early ‘90s and was recruited into the Big 4. He has been a partner with KPMG for 17 years serving in numerous leadership roles across the firm. In 2005, Danny moved to Beijing, China to help KPMG build a consulting business in the booming emerging market. In that role, Danny successfully built a consulting practice of over 1000 KPMG consultants across China serving numerous Fortune 100 clients. Danny also served as an advisor on many boards for clients as well as various non-profit boards. Since his return to Los Angeles, Danny serves as the Global Lead Partner to a Media and Entertainment client as well as one of the Innovation Leaders for KPMG's Cyber Security Services practice. Danny is passionate about being what he calls "The New American", embracing the diversity of his cultural, personal, and professional experiences for greater success. Danny is a proud double alumnus from LMU where he received his undergraduate degree in Philosophy and MBA.

    Session A: Panel Discussion - Executive Presence

    Executive Presence is having the blend of the right temperament, competencies, and skills. Embodying executive presence allows you to get ahead, influence others, and drive results in the business environment. However, how do you embody executive presence? How does having executive presence influence your career, relationship building, and relevance to your clients? In this informative session, you will learn about practical tips to apply executive presence in the work place. You'll leave better equipped for your next meeting regardless of the audience.

    Helen Kim, Tax Partner, EY

    Helen is a newly promoted Tax Partner in the Los Angeles office of EY with 15+ years of experience in public accounting and an in-house tax department. She has experience with clients in the retail consumer products, engineering and media and entertainment industries.  She has extensive experience in ASCA 740 - Accounting for Income Taxes and mult-state and multi-national compliance for C corporations. She provides tax and business advisory services to numerous publicly traded and privately owned companies in Southern California and has provided advisory services to her clients in the areas of state and local tax planning, international tax, accounting methods, tax controversy, tax process and department improvements and credits and incentives. Helen graduated from UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business with a degree in Business Administration and earned her Master of Business Taxation from USC.

    John Hung, Senior Manager, Deloitte

    John Hung is a Tax Senior Manager in Deloitte's Tax Management Consulting group based out of the Los Angeles office. He has more than 12 years of experience implementing indirect tax software (Vertex, ONESOURCE) and enabling SAP indirect tax functionality. John has a strong understanding of US sales and use tax, and international VAT processes. He has worked in a variety of industries including technology, consumer products, oil and gas, and manufacturing for global companies. John is also a CPA in Illinois and California, and has Master's and Bachelor's degrees in Accounting from the University of Illinois - Urbana-Champaign.

    Kevin Naya, Director of the Productivity Initiative, The Boeing Company

    Kevin Naya is presently the Director of the Productivity Initiative at The Boeing Company. Kevin leads the enterprise improvement team chartered with targeted problem solving and step-function improvement. With roughly 150,000 employees across the United States and in more than 65 countries, Boeing is the world's largest aerospace company and top U.S. exporter. Kevin has established and institutionalized various improvement standards across engineering and product development. His past roles include: Director of Competitive & Integration for Boeing Defense Engineering; Director of Lean for Space & Intelligence Systems; Deputy General Manager for a $150M subsidiary; Chief Marketing Officer of a new venture; Mission System Lead on various satellite programs; R&D project manager; and Telemetry Lead on the Magellan Venus Radar Mapper Sensor. Kevin is a tremendous positive influence for diversity, inclusion, and leadership. He actively serves as an Executive Champion for the Boeing Asian American Professional Association in the Southern California region and the Boeing Leadership Association of Southern California. Kevin holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Hawaii, an MS in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, and an MBA from the Anderson School at UCLA. Kevin enjoys basketball, skiing, hiking, chess, and strategy games. Kevin spends time raising his 3 teenage daughters and tries not to age more than 1 year each month.

    Les Asare, Manager of Financial Services, The Prudential Insurance Company of America

    Started my insurance career 17 years ago specializing in Healthcare planning. I transitioned to Prudential Advisors 6 years ago with a career in Retirement Income Planning, helping individuals, families, and business owner’s grow and protect their wealth. As a Manager of Financial Services, my team's vision is to leave a financially sound legacy for the next generation, while making sure our clients are in a better financial condition than we found them. Perennial member of Prudential's Field Advisory Council, Prudential's Master's Council, Prudential's Volunteer Community, current member of Delta Mu Delta, an International Honor Society in Business, and was recently awarded the GAMA Frontline Leader Award in 2016. I enjoy playing pool, ping pong and travelling the world. My belief is that, each and every one of us is innately capable of achieving their potential, hence encouraging people to unleash their inner prowess, will make our world a better place. My favorite quote is one shared by Les Brown, and that is "Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow as an individual".

    Peter Kim, Tax Principal, PwC

    Peter is a tax partner with PwC in the State and Local Tax practice and specializes in income and franchise tax matters in a multi-state environment. He has extensive experience in all aspects of state and local tax matters, including income, franchise, gross receipts, and sales & use taxes. Peter focuses on identifying and implementing tax efficient structures and transactions, assisting with state tax controversy matters, and identifying potential refund opportunities for state taxes paid. In addition, he has significant experience in FAS109/ASC740 matters relating to accounting for state and local taxes for both public and privately-held companies. In recent years, Peter has spent time focusing on high-growth startup companies and entertainment clients based in Southern California. Peter has served clients in a wide range of sectors, including technology, entertainment & media, retail & consumer, pharmaceuticals, banking, and automotive industries. Peter received a B.A. in economics from University of California, San Diego and is a graduate of University of California, Davis School of Law. Prior to joining PwC, Peter spent time at the California State Board of Equalization both in Appeals Division and Board Chairman's Office. Peter is a licensed attorney and a member of the State Bar of California.

    Vivien Usui, Audit Partner, KPMG

    Vivien was the first female partner admitted to KPMG U.S.'s, Japanese Audit Practice and leads the Japanese Audit Practice in Los Angeles. She is the mother of 4 children and has 30 years of experience serving a wide variety of global companies, particularly in the electronic, manufacturing, automotive, information and communication, and distribution sectors. Vivien has extensive experience working with dynamic multinational enterprises and the business issues they face. With 30 years of auditing experience and a strong background in taxation, Vivien is a business partner to the clients she serves. Born and raised in the United States, with a strong command of the Japanese language and its cultural background, Vivien specializes in serving Japanese multinational companies. Vivien is the Co-Lead of KPMG's Japanese Practice Network of Women and serves on the board of Japan America Society of Southern California. Vivien received her BS in Business Administration as well as Masters of Business Taxation degrees at USC.

    Session B: Workshop - Effective Communication

    Being able to effectively communicate is crucial not only in our business lives but also in our personal lives. Communication is a two way process; improving communication involves both how we send and receive messages. It is a leadership skill that takes practice.

    Kevin Ma, International Tax Senior Manager, EY

    Kevin Ma is a certified public accountant and an international tax senior manager with EY based in Irvine, California. He advises publicly listed and privately held multinational companies with various international tax advisory issues including corporate reorganizations and acquisitions. As a routine public speaker, Kevin has presented on numerous topics from technical matters related to international taxation to soft skill development for employees at EY. With 11 years as a leader with EY's Pan Asian Pacific American affinity group and as a board member at large with the Ascend LA metro chapter, Kevin has helped to support and mentor many of his colleagues. Kevin is a graduate from the University of Southern California with a BS in Accountancy and a Master of Science in Taxation.

    Salisa Douglas, Branch Service Manager, AVP, HSBC

    Salisa Douglas is a Branch Service Manager, AVP for HSBC Bank, one of the world's largest financial institutions, and Managing Director, Finance Department for Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. Her experiences through work and volunteer opportunities have given her the skills to help you take the stage and improve on your ability to effectively communicate. Salisa works with large and small groups, on national projects and local projects, working with senior leadership and those on the ground to understand what changes are happening within her company. She also works with her sorority to train several chapters on how to budget, utilize the tools and resources the organization has, and also creates policies and procedures. Salisa is a graduate from California State University - Fullerton with a BS in Marketing and earned her Masters of Business Administration from Chapman University.

    Christine Ching, Consultant, Protiviti

    Christine Ching is a Consultant at Protiviti providing exceptional professional client services to various clients in industries including life sciences, financial services and real estate, and consumer products and services. She has extensive IT audit and business process experience in Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) readiness and compliance, fully outsourced and co-sourced internal audit, and COSO compliance. Although she was born and raised in Los Angeles, Christine continues to discover new adventures and gems hidden in Southern California. However, Christine believes in seeing the world beyond your perspective. This is where travel becomes an integral part of education, growth, and enjoyment in Christine's life. Christine is absolutely ecstatic to be your host and hope you enjoy tonight's program!

    Jeff Lam, Experienced Consultant, Protiviti

    Jeff Lam is a globetrotter that loves to travel the world to experience new cultures and cuisines. Since moving to the Los Angeles area two years ago, Jeff has developed a foodie's appreciation for cultural and culinary diversity LA has to offer along with its amazing weather. Jeff is an Experienced Consultant at Protiviti with over 2 years of client serving experience healthcare and financial services companies. In addition to Protiviti and Ascend in LA, Jeff volunteers as a mentor for current college students at his alma mater, Arizona State University and members of the Ascend Business Alliance chapter at ASU to provide support for students seeking professional and academic advice.
