Ascend Greater Washington Chapter is looking for volunteers to assist with AFAC’s new project:

Volunteer Project: Arlington County has provided AFAC with a piece of land to establish a garden. Five large raised beds have been built at that site by an Eagle Scout for this purpose. We need the help of ASCEND's members to prepare these beds for spring planting: by filling these beds with compost, mulch, and topsoil. Wheelbarrows and shovels will be provided, but welcomed if you have any at home. Please bring garden gloves if you have a pair.
About AFAC: The Arlington Food Assistance Center's (AFAC) Plot Against Hunger program is a program that encourages local gardeners and farmers to grow crops for the main food pantry in Arlington County. Over 40 gardens at schools, churches, and community organizations in Arlington County support AFAC by planting and donating fresh produce for the 1,800 households AFAC serves each week. Fresh produce is nutritious, but often the most expensive item in a grocery cart. We hope to help make a difference in the diets of low-income residents.
