The Ascend LA Metro and Seattle chapters have come together to celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month and bring you “Exploring Resiliency Through Historical Challenges: The Asian American Experience.” Join us for a virtual and insightful conversation with industry leaders.

Through an interactive panel discussion, speakers will share empowering stories around the challenges they have overcome and the role that culture has played in those predicaments. Panelists will also focus on how we can be resilient during these uncertain times and face this current challenge together.

Maureen Francisco

Co- Executive Producer, NW Productions LLC

Maureen Francisco is the co-executive producer of NW Productions, LLC, a media and entertainment company that produces live events including the state qualifier to Miss USA and Miss Teen USA for ID, MT, OR, and WA. In addition, she is the co-founder of a women’s empowerment event called Beauty | Brand | Believe Expo and an awards show that celebrates the pageant community at the international level The Global Beauty Awards show. In addition,

Maureen is in the forefront of the Corona Virus fight by teaming with a company that provides the spray, which kills many viruses on surfaces including COVID-19 for up to 120 days (the only spray that will soon be FDA, CDC, and EPA approved). Maureen served as president of the Ascend Seattle Chapter for five years and seven years on the board in various capacities. 

 

Rocky Fong

Vice President | Strategy & Corporate Affairs - Community Affairs Exam Team at U.S. Bank

 

 As a Vice President of Strategy & Corporate Affairs within the CRA division, Rocky is responsible for developing a thorough understanding of U.S. Bank's CRA performance in assigned assessment areas and focus categories. 

 

Rocky began his career in the banking and financial services industry in 2004.  Prior to joining U.S. Bank Strategy & Corporate Affairs within the CRA division, Rocky worked as a Wholesale Banking Credit Team Lead which supports majority of the Wholesale Banking business lines, and Branch Manager at the Flagship Branch for U.S. Bank in the state of Washington.

 

Rocky currently sits on the board of the U.S. Bank Seattle Asian Heritage Business Resource Group as Chapter President, and previously on the board of U.S. Bank Seattle/Western Washington Employee Development Network, where he devotes his time to coordinate personal, professional, and volunteer opportunities/events for employees to participate.  In addition, he also serves on several local non-profit organizations as board member, including American Red Cross and Chinese Information Service Center (CISC). He was nominated as one of the honorees for 2019 Puget Sound Business Journal (PSBJ) 40 Under 40 because of his accomplishments among business, charitable and community service activities, and leadership over the years.

 

Eunhee Sumner

Vice President, Continuous Improvement. Customer Analytics, Marketing and Product Organization, Starbucks

Eunhee Sumner is the vice president, Continuous Improvement for Starbucks’ Customer Analytics, Marketing and Product Organization. Since joining Starbucks in 2014, Eunhee has held several positions leading strategic, operational and continuous improvement efforts across Starbucks’ Finance, Supply Chain/Sourcing, Data Management and Marketing departments.

As a versatile leader and change agent, Eunhee brings 20+ years of experience leading small to Fortune 500 companies through mergers and acquisitions activities, venture capital investing in early-stage companies, continuous/process improvements, and corporate turnarounds. Most recently, she held senior roles at Russell Investments and Intellectual Ventures, and was head of Corporate Development at JPMorgan Chase (fka Washington Mutual) leading the M&A activities and integrations, and managing the $200m Strategic Venture Capital fund. Eunhee also worked as an early-stage investor at Draper Fisher Jurvetson Portage Ventures and launched a stored value card start-up. She began her career in financial services at Chase Manhattan and in the Lehman Brothers Mergers & Acquisitions group. Most recently, she served on the board of the Asian Counseling and Referral Services (ACRS) and St. Joseph Endowment.

 

Joseph Cruz

Principal, International Tax Services, EY

Joe is the Orange County and San Diego International Tax Market Leader and specializes in Operating Model Effectiveness (“OME”). He also serves as the America’s Pan Asian Professional Network Co-Chair. Joe advises on cross-border mergers and acquisitions, foreign expansion, supply chain restructuring, and repatriation and deferral of offshore earnings. He assists in audit review of both publicly listed multinational companies and nonpublic, privately held entities. Joe assisted several growth companies with their foreign expansion including establishing trading operations in Ireland and Singapore. He has lead successful implementations of supply chain reorganizations and cash repatriation projects.

Joe began his career in 2000 in the New York office of another Big 4 firm specializing in international tax which also included a stint in the national office in Washington DC from 2003-2005. At the end of 2005, he switched firms and joined EY’s Irvine international tax practice.
