Community Service Weed Removal

Please join Ascend's first Community Service networking experience as we organize together to remove invasive/exotic plant species in Forest Park on June 13th from 10 am to 2 pm. This should be a rewarding and fulfilling experience as we all pitch in for a common goal. Weather is expected to be in the high 70’s and sunny.

Forest Park is a beautiful oasis of woods, ponds, and glacial topography, right in the middle of Queens. Unfortunately it is being degraded by various invasive plant species. We will be removing one of the more aggressive species, the Japanese knotweed, from a section of the park on Saturday June 13th.

Gloves and tools will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own. There may be patches of poison ivy so please wear pants and sturdy shoes. Please also bring food and refreshments as we will not be serving lunch at the Park – this is a perfect opportunity for packing a picnic lunch!

We will be meeting at the intersection of Forest Park Drive and Woodhaven Blvd at 9:45am. You can get there easily by car (Exit 4 for Forest Park Dr or Exit 5 for Woodhaven Blvd/Myrtle Ave from Jackie Robinson Pkwy) or take the J train to Woodhaven Blvd and walk uphill to Forest Park Drive. For more transportation information, please visit

Ascend will make a lasting difference on this community and continue to evolve our commitment to green initiatives. We'd love it if you could join us. Family and friends are all welcome as we work towards the beautification of the Park.

There will be a waiver that needs to be signed upon arrival. Young adults ages 14–17 must have a signed waiver from a parent or guardian to participate. It is recommended that all volunteers be at least 14 years old. Those under the age of 14 should be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

We look forward to seeing many of you there!
