| Ascend Goes to Washington |
![]() In March, Ascend visited the White House and participated in the inaugural Asian American Government Executives Network - Senior Executive Series (AAGEN SES) Development Program. This program is part of Obama’s Executive Order to increase the participation of Asian Americans in federal programs. Only 20 pre-executives were selected from hundreds of applicants from government agencies such as the IRS, SSA, USAID, OMB, DOD, DOJ, HHS, EPA, DOC, and DOE. Ascend’s Wes Hom and Larry Chang presented "Myths of Asian Leadership”, "Your Personal Brand”, and "Taking Risks”, popular modules from the Executive Insight Series (EIS). Feedback was extremely positive and there was great interest in signing up for other modules. Leaders of the AAGEN and the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) continue to explore partnership opportunities with Ascend to support the Pan-Asian community. Ascend spoke with one of the executive pan-Asian mentors from a major government agency, who agreed with Ascend’s observations that many of the GS14 and GS15 senior managers are too focused on technical skills, prefer to work in silos and are not comfortable in navigating cross-functional settings. This executive also supports Ascend’s leadership philosophy for its uniqueness and tailored approach for Asian professionals, inspiring across generations. |
