September Edition

Dear Ascend Members and Supporters,

Thank you for celebrating our 10th Anniversary with us at the 8th Annual Ascend National Convention & Career Fair themed What Success Looks Like - Agile, Innovative, Bold on August 29 – 31, 2015 at the New York Hilton Midtown. We are proud to announce that this year's convention was our largest yet with 3,000+ registered participants. Wow! From beginning to end, I was impressed with the overall energy and excitement. A BIG thank you goes to our partners, speakers, members, and supporters! We hope you left the convention feeling inspired and looking to make a difference. As our inspirational speaker Joe Jordan said "When you change the way you see things, the things you see change" - so let's change the world together! Start by joining your local Ascend chapter, becoming a member, or volunteering at a local Ascend event.

Please join me in Washington, D.C. this November 13-14 for the 6th Annual AscendNAAMBA Conference in conjunction with the Ascend Greater Washington Chapter's Inspiring Across Generations (IAG) Conference. Registration is now LIVE - Click here to register.

Let's continue this momentum into next year at the Disneyland Hotel July 30- August 1, 2016!

Warmest Regards,

Jeff Chin
President, Ascend

Ascend NorCal IAG Volunteer Appreciation

Ascend NorCal Leadership wanted to appreciate all the hard work that went into the planning and execution of the June 13 NorCal IAG - "Knife's Edge". The event was held at Omescape, a real room escape game that incorporates "real-life social involvement". Twenty-five Ascend NorCal Volunteers and Leaders came to enjoy two rounds of the highly-rated escape games at Omescape. Ascend NorCal is proud of the work we do throughout the year, but the IAG is one of, if not biggest, events of the year and always takes a lot of manpower to make it successful. We hope to make the Volunteer Appreciation Event a tradition for many more years to come.

Calling all Executives: Invitation to Everest Survey

Ascend Foundation is partnering with The Everest Project, a nonprofit research initiative that is completing a study focused on women leading change and innovation in Corporate America. Having interviewed over 400 executives, Everest is now surveying women from companies and organizations across five affinity groups - Black, Hispanic, LGBTQ, Pan-Asian, and White. The ideal survey participant is an executive who sits within 1-5 levels of the CEO. The survey will take about 15 minutes. We are asking each Survey Subject to select a colleague to complete a 10 minute companion survey. That colleague should be a peer who is familiar with the Survey Subject’s leadership.

Our voices need to be heard. Take the Everest Survey today.

Ascend Member's Corner: Rose Zu, New York Metro Chapter

This month we are highlighting what impact being involved with Ascend has had on Rose Zu. Rose is Manager, Transaction Services, Global Trade and Receivables Finance at HSBC.

"I have been fortunate enough to attend EIS and this year's national convention through HSBC's generous sponsorship. Attending these programs has provided invaluable perspective, inspiration, and role models to look up to as I begin year four of my working life. Thanks to what I learned at EIS, I was able to gain a promotion earlier this year and am now leading a team of six (and growing!). To give back, I supported Ascend's Instagram and Facebook accounts during the national convention this year, putting into practice what I am learning as a student at NYU's M.S. in Corporate Communications program."
We would also like to remind everyone to take advantage of any matching grants programs
that your company offers. For more information email us at info@ascendleadership.org.
