February Edition
Dear Ascend Members and Supporters,

Happy Year of the Monkey! I hope you all had a wonderful time ringing in the New Year.
I'm really excited to share with you all the things we have been doing. I'm also really looking forward to our upcoming Ascend National Convention at Disneyland in July and the AscendNAAMBA Conference in New York in September. I want to thank all of our Chapters for all the great work they have been doing and the exciting events they've hosted.

In other news, The Everest Project, a global research initiative that Ascend Foundation is a research partner in, along with Executive Leadership Council (ECL), Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility (HACR), and Out Leadership, is hosting their first executive summit "Eve of Change: Women Redefining Corporate America" at end of February. Ascend is proud to be a part of this effort that is dedicated to raising the bar on how corporations champion, develop, and support women executives. We will share the exciting results of the research with you soon!

Warmest Regards,

Jeff Chin
President, Ascend

The Atlantic features Ascend Foundation's Hidden in Plain Sight research report

The Atlantic recently featured the Hidden in Plain Sight report and interviewed Anna Mok, Partner at Deloitte & Touche, LLP and Ascend Executive Vice President, along with the report authors and Ascend Executive Advisors, Buck Gee,  Denise Peck and Janet Wong. The article titled "Asian Americans Feel Held Back at Work by Stereotypes" discusses racial misconceptions and implicit biases and how they affect people at work.

Anna Mok emphasizes that executives who ultimately have a major say in the trajectory of their employees’ careers need to understand the nuances of their talent pool: “We can’t move the needle until people that manage individuals really respect and understand those nuances and differences and actually appreciate it—not see it as a handicap but as a strength," she says.

Ascend Inspirational Leader: Lily Tang, President, The Everest Project

Through a twist of fate and some very good relationships, Lily got the chance to co-found a groundbreaking research project. This two-year undertaking examined the influence of women’s leadership in today’s global economy and provided insight into how the intersection of gender, race, ethnicity, culture, and sexual orientation impacts women in the workplace. The findings of the study “Women Redefining Corporate America” are stunning and speak to what women are able to accomplish despite their underrepresentation and experiences of discrimination. Lily and her team at The Everest Project will be presenting their first executive summit "Eve of Change: Women Redefining Corporate America" on February 24th in New York City.
