Bimal Thapa’s story reflects the best of Ascend and
the opportunities available at the Ascend National Convention. Mr. Thapa completed his Masters at Baruch
College and became involved with the school’s Ascend Chapter. He was part of and helped the Events
planning Committee put together many events at Baruch. He is
very active with Ascend and jumped at the chance to volunteer at the 3rd Ascend
National Convention last year.
Besides committing to his scheduled volunteer shifts
at the Convention, he also helped out during the setup day. The volunteering
opportunity allowed him to listen in on panel discussions and also provided him
a platform to meet some great professionals.
After graduating from Baruch, he continued to be an
active member of Ascend. It was a tough economy to graduate into and Ascend
played an even bigger role in giving him opportunities to network with
professionals from different industries. He decided to follow up with a
professional whom he had met at one of the mentoring sessions at the
Convention. She responded that there might be an opportunity for him within her
team at RBS and suggested that he meet them. His meeting with the team went very
well and he was offered a position a few days later. He has been working at RBS
Arthur Chin, Ascend Executive Director, stated, "We are very fortunate to have volunteers as dependable and
talented as Bimal. His outstanding contribution and rapport with others was
recognized by Ascend executives and ultimately led to a wonderful career
opportunity.” Arthur also added "Bimal
is an example of how participating in the Ascend network can create exposure to
executives and have tremendous positive career impact!"
In a recent
conversation with Mr. Thapa, he mentioned that you get what you put in and added
that "don’t just become a member, be involved.” He is looking forward to
attending this year’s Convention as a professional member and also as a volunteer.
