Today, we held an Ascend LEAD event sponsored by Clorox at City Center Oakland. We took the combined LEAD and Mentoring format to Clorox employees, while allowing a limited set of Ascend members to participate.
Approximately 45 people (3 Ascend speakers, 2 Clorox speakers, 4 Ascend mentors, 3 Clorox mentors, 27 Clorox employees and 6 Ascend members) attended this 2 hour session today at noon. Wanda Royse was the very capable moderator. Karen Luey of Jamba Juice and Prakash Ramachandran of NordicWindpower were the panel speakers. Arthur Chin, Buck Gee, Larry Chang and Wes Hom led the small table discussions and mentoring.
Executives from Clorox included Tarang Amin, SVP and General Manager; Sheldon Quan, VP Legal; Raj Rajaratnam, VP Global Insight; and Erby Foster, Director of Diversity. James Yen organized the event.
Five notable successes:
1. The topic "Characteristics of Leaders: Driving and Implementing Change" was well accepted. 2. Wanda was a terrific moderator. 3. The small table mentoring discussions were very energetic. Arthur, Buck and Wes are characteristically outspoken and provocative. 4. Jackie Matsumura, partner at BPM, saw the event promoted online; and sponsored three of her tax specialists to attend. 5. At least five attendees made a point to register and attend because they found our annual conference compelling.
This combined LEAD and Mentoring format was also extremely well received during the October LEAD event on "Managing Your Career" in East Palo Alto.
I think we have a winner with this combined format!! Regards, Larry
