Ascend and EY Co-Host "Thriving in the New Normal"

On July 29th, Ascend held yet another successful event, "Thriving in the New Normal", co-hosted by EY featuring a panel of Asian executives from the firm, Interpublic Group (IPG) and Verizon. More than 120 professional and student members of Ascend and guests from EY, Verizon, and IPG attended the session. Attendees participated in a structured networking activity to build new relationships and learn about one another's perspectives on what the "new normal" means. Diana Solash, President of Ascend's Metro NY Chapter then provided opening remarks, welcomed guests to EY and introduced the panel discussion moderator, Lan Ming, Ascend's VP of Communications.

Panelists Linda Lam, EY Managing Partner, Jeannie Diefenderfer, Senior Vice President of Global Engineering and Planning at Verizon Services Organization, and Raj Singhal, Vice President of Global Planning and Finance at IPG shared their backgrounds, professional stories and insights to provide the audience with helpful advice on how to thrive in the new normal;

Build and take advantage of relationships sideways - not only up and down. Make sure you understand what your peers do and how you can help each other.

Speak up for yourself. Share your opinions and let people know what you want so they know how to help you.

Remember to focus on your weaknesses as well are your strengths. It is important to constantly challenge yourself to further develop.

Develop meaningful networks. Creating meaningful networks takes much effort but the rewards can be career changing.

Do not overreact when problems arise. Learn how to manage pitfalls by planning ahead.

The event was a tremendous success for Ascend. The turnout reached full capacity, the speakers shared multifaceted career advice, and the occasion provided yet another great opportunity for members to build their network and further their professional development.
