ASCEND ANNOUNCES 2010 NATIONAL RECOGNITIONS AND SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS
Convention kicks off in one day; honorees to be celebrated on-site
New York; August 13, 2010. The winners of Deloitte’s Ascend Leadership Award and the Ascend "Inspiring Across Generations” recognitions for 2010 have been announced. The honorees, visible leaders nominated by their colleagues, staff, and/or fellow executives, were chosen on the basis of their work, including mentoring and volunteering, for the benefit of Pan-Asian Americans in business. Ascend, the premier professional leadership organization dedicated to leveraging the global business potential of Pan-Asians, is holding its annual convention in New York City beginning August 14, and the winners will be honored at this event.
The winner of Deloitte’s Ascend Leadership Award is Siddharth Kaul of Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation. Kapila Anand of KPMG, Dennis Wu of WuHoover, and Alice Young of Kaye Scholer, LLP have been named Ascend Inspirational Leaders; Alice Matsuoka of The Boeing Company, Neeraj Mehta of GE Capital, and Kamesh Nagarajan of Morgan Stanley Smith Barney have been named Ascend High-Impact Leaders, and Patricia Park of Deloitte LLP and Helene Yan of Interpublic Group have been named Ascend Rising Stars. Lisa Ong of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP has won the President’s PhD Award, which stands for Passion, High Energy, and Dedication. The honorees will receive their awards at the National Convention Gala dinner on Monday, August 16, 2010, in New York City.
The 2010 scholarships from Ernst & Young, Deloitte LLP, ING, Cargill, and PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP for business students have also been announced. Ernst & Young has awarded scholarships to Bosco Cheung (2012), Pace University; Billy Tan (2013), Fordham University; My Thanh (2013), Drexel University; and George Chang (2013), Binghamton University. Polly Yesol Choi (2011), Baruch College, receives a scholarship from Deloitte. ING is awarding scholarships to Khyati Joshi (2011), Rutgers; and Paul Lee (2010), Northern Illinois University. Jessica Eng (2012), Binghamton University; and Minnie Wong (2012), University of California, Berkeley, are receiving scholarships from Cargill. And PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP is awarding scholarships to Taniel Chan (2012), Binghamton University; Liang Jian Wu (2012), University of Connecticut; and Chelsea Lin (2011), Queens College. Scholarship recipients will be recognized at a special luncheon sponsored by Ernst & Young on Sunday, August 15, at the convention.
"Embracing the Future – Onward and Upward” is the theme for the Third Annual Ascend National Convention, which has become the foremost event for Pan-Asians and other professionals to build relationships with mentors and business leaders and to pursue leadership development. It will take place this August 14, 15, and 16 at the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers, 811 Seventh Avenue at 53rd Street. Registration is still open, either online or at www.ascendleadership.org.
