ASCEND ANNOUNCES MAJOR SPEAKERS FOR THIRD ANNUAL NATIONAL CONVENTION
Ernst & Young’s Nancy Altobello, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP’s P. Gregory Garrison, KPMG’s Kathy Hannan, GE Capital’s Dan Henson, Houlihan Lokey’s James Zukin, and Deloitte LLP’s Barry Salzberg to give keynote addresses NYC Comptroller John Liu to speak before Gala Dinner
New York; August 9, 2010. Ascend, the premier professional organization dedicated to leveraging the leadership and global business potential of Pan-Asians, has announced several high-profile speakers for its upcoming annual convention in New York City from August 14-16. The keynote speakers are Nancy A. Altobello, Ernst & Young Americas Vice Chair, People; P. Gregory Garrison, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP Vice Chairman Clients & Markets; Kathy Hannan, KPMG National Managing Partner; Dan Henson, Officer for the GE Company and President & CEO of GE Capital, Americas; Barry Salzberg, Deloitte CEO; and James Zukin, co-founder and Senior Managing Director of Houlihan Lokey. Introducing the convention’s Gala Dinner will be John Liu, Comptroller of the City of New York and the first Asian-American to hold this office. "Ascend is excited to host these industry luminaries,” said Ascend’s executive director Arthur Chin. "They are recognizing the call for inclusion of Pan-Asians in senior leadership roles, which are critical to corporate innovation, business development, and globalization. With the continuing economic recovery we encourage more of you to seize this opportunity, visit our career fair, and make this an annual pilgrimage along with the many other Ascend events during the year.” Ms. Altobello, who will be delivering the keynote speech for the Student Scholarship Luncheon sponsored by Ernst & Young, is Ernst & Young’s Americas Vice Chair of People. She was previously E&Y’s Managing Partner for the Assurance and Advisory Business Services Practice for the Northeast. As Vice Chairman Clients & Markets, Mr. Garrison leads PwC LLP’s U.S. business units and serves as a Senior Relationship Partner to a number of the firm’s largest and most complex clients. Ms. Hannan, as National Managing Partner of Diversity and Corporate Social Responsibility at KPMG, provides the strategic direction to leverage diversity and inclusion, issue identification, and responsiveness through engaged corporate citizenship in market development. Mr. Henson is an officer of GE Company and president and CEO of GE Capital, Americas. Prior to this role, he was president & CEO of GE Capital Solutions. Mr Salzberg was elected as Chief Executive Officer of Deloitte LLP in June 2007, after serving as the U.S. Managing Partner from 2003 to 2007. He joined Deloitte in 1977 and was admitted as partner in 1985. Mr. Zukin is the co-founder and Senior Managing Director of Houlihan Lokey, where he spearheads the firm’s emerging-market strategy. He is a Trustee of the Asia Society and the Chairman of Asia Society Southern California. Mr. Liu serves as the 43rd Comptroller of the City of New York. Previously, he served in the New York City Council, representing District 20 in Queens, and also as Chair of the Council’s Transportation Committee. Mr. Liu’s historic elections as the first Asian-American in New York City elected to legislative office in 2001 and citywide in 2009 were milestones for Asian-Americans in New York and across the nation. The Ascend National Convention has become the foremost event for Pan-Asians and other professionals to build relationships with mentors and business leaders and to pursue leadership development. The event will take place this August 14th, 15th, and 16th at the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers, 811 Seventh Avenue at 53rd Street. Highlights from this year’s convention presentations include "Taking Calculated Risks and Moving Out of Your Comfort Zone,” "The Asian Mosaic – Managing a Global Workforce,” "Leadership Development through Volunteering,” and "Contrasting Asian and Latin American Market Opportunities.” Additional features of the Third Annual Ascend National Convention include: · Diversity Career Fair. The popular one-day career fair takes place as part of the Annual Convention on Sunday, August 15, and gives companies a chance to meet and recruit from the pool of professionals and students in attendance, as well as to showcase their products and services. Junior/senior professionals and students will have opportunities to hold intimate, round-table conversations with Ascend senior executive mentors from various industries and backgrounds. · KPMG Case Competition. The first Ascend and KPMG LLP National Student Case Study Competition will present accounting students with the challenge of resolving real-world accounting issues in a collegial and competitive environment. · Signature Professional Development Series. This series, offered only by Ascend, features awareness and skill-building workshops designed to help bridge the gap between Western and Asian cultures. · Networking and Socializing.
