Children relying on school breakfast and lunch are especially vulnerable when school is not in session over the weekends. The Weekend Bag Program works with schools and community centers in DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia, to provide food to children considered "at-risk" of hunger in our community over the weekend.  The Weekend Bag is part of Feeding America’s national BackPack Program and provides bags of groceries for children ages 5-18.

Optional:  Sponsor families for only $5 each!  While a donation is not necessary to volunteer for this event, your ability to help us sponsor a few additional bags would be helpful.  Each bag contains 5-7 pounds of shelf-stable food and always consists of at least two kid-friendly snacks and two breakfast items, as well as a meal to supplement the family, which is comprised of a protein, grain, vegetable, and fruit.  A sample menu might include two packs of oatmeal, fruit cocktail, spaghetti noodles, meatballs in tomato sauce, tomatoes, green beans, cereal bar and an applesauce cup.
